“HALF” DOME
HALF DOME, STANDING ABOVE THE YOSEMITE VALLEY FLOOR AT A STAGGERING 4,700 FT TALL, IS PROBABLY THE MOST RECOGNIZED LANDMARK IN THE 1,169 SQUARE MILE NATIONAL PARK. HOWEVER, DESPITE ITS ICONIC NAME, HALF DOME IS NOT ACTUALLY HALF OF A DOME, BUT IS THE REMNANT OF AN ARÊTE - AN ANCIENT RIDGE - OF WHICH ROUGHLY 80% STILL STANDS.
